Little Sisters of St. Francis participating on Laudato Si
Pope Francis released his Laudato Si encyclical in 2015, issuing an urgent call for ecological sustainability. In 2021, he invited all of us to take significant action. Embracing this call, the Little Sisters of St. Francis, building on our Franciscan legacy of caring for creation, committed to the Laudato Si Action Platform as a journey of transformation for the greater good.
In a video message from May 2021, Pope Francis emphasized, “We need a new ecological approach that can transform our way of dwelling in the world, our lifestyles, our relationship with Earth’s resources, and our overall perspective on humanity and life.” In response, we the Little Sisters of St. Francis, pledge to make our voices heard whenever opportunities arise..
To begin, we focus on simple, daily activities to protect our environment, such as reducing plastic waste, designating areas for compostable and non-compostable items, and encouraging ongoing tree planting in all our communities
Here, we are reminded to focus on the seven goals of Laudato Si:

- The Cry of the Earth
- The Cry of the Poor
- Ecological Economics
- Simple Lifestyles
- Ecological Education
- Community Involvement and Participation

As we consider the way forward, we are also encouraged to take the following actions:
- Read or re-read Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’.
- Participate in or start a Laudato Si’ Circle.
- Become a Laudato Si’ Animator.
- Shop at your local market for fresh food.
- Save paper.
- Organize a campaign to clean and care for public green spaces./li>
Prayer
Be still and experience the Divine Being within us, in others, and throughout creation. Each breath we take is a gift from our Maker, a sign of our life and connection with our Creator. In gratitude and love, we gather here in this moment of history, celebrating the life-giving experiences of our conscious prayer and sacred actions. These awaken hope for our suffering Earth and the impoverished. We believe that positive change occurs when our prayers align with our way of living. Triune God, wondrous community of infinite love, Your love has brought forth all that breathes life on Earth. We, as human beings on our journey toward You, find peace, serenity, and joy in all that You have created. We recognize the mystical bond that unites us as brothers and sisters.
Creator God, our Father and Mother, the ultimate source of all that exists, Your goodness and providence nurture us at every stage of our lives, encouraging us to care for our common home. Your creation is Your gift to us. Incarnate God, Jesus our Master and Friend, through You all things were created. You united Yourself with this Earth when You were formed in Mary’s womb. Your redeeming presence in the cosmos inspires us to live and act like You in our circumstances, for You are the beloved of our souls
Holy Spirit, Living God, present at the heart of the universe, inspiring new pathways to fullness of life, You have guided people throughout history to restore the beauty and goodness of Your Creation. n our time, You have inspired Pope Francis to lead us in caring for our common home with Eco-Spirituality. Grounded in our faith, this spirituality guides our thoughts, feelings, and actions, motivating us to passionately protect our world, especially its most vulnerable members
Amen.
